Albertville
The birthplace or Albertville is at 406 East Main
Street. In 1860 James C. Miller established a Post
Office in his log cabin home. He then named Albertville
after his father-n-law, Thomas A. Albert.
Albertville was incorporated February 1891. The city limit was 1
mile North, South East and West from the intersection of
Main and Broad Streets (4 miles square).
L.S. Emmett established the first store in 1881. Between 1881 and
1883, 120 came from Georgia. The NC&StL RR was Completed
through Albertville in 1892.
The first bank was founded in 1902 by J.F. Hooper. The Sand Mountain
Banner was etablished in 1897, the Albertvlle Herald in
1934 and the Sand Mountain Rporter in 1955.
In 1900 The State Legislators established the Seventh District
Agricultural School in Albertville. It was founded by
the late J. Willie Johnson in 1908 and continues to be
operated in 2003 by his son, Robert O. Johnson,
Photographer.
Sand Mountain is a rich plateau approx. 25 miles wide and 75 miles long
extending 40 miles N.E. of Birmingham and almost to
Chattanooga, TN. Sand Mountain is known as the most
densely populated rural area in the U.S.
